Bagh printing is the traditional style of Hand block printing using eco friendly natural and vegetable dye technique. It is the art of MP the heart of India. The name is derived from the village Bagh situated near the banks of river Baghani, in Madhya Pradesh. The patterns of the blocks are inspired by the murals in the Caves of Bagh, which date back to the Ashoka period.
The Muslim Khatris and the resident tribals practice this art. Block designs include mainly floral and geometrical patterns. Some popular bagh motifs are narial jaal, ghavar jaal, saj, chameli, mogra, laharia etc. Their speciality is that they use vegetable dyes not only is it organic, but the colors are fast, and a lot of washing is done for fastening and making sure the colors are long-lasting.
